Weekend roundup

The weekend delivered a sharply reduced frame this weekend, with the top fifteen combining for £22,079,564, a steep fall from last weekend’s £46,340,508. Removing the £12,908,968 Spider Man previews from last week’s total gives a comparable figure of £33,431,540, meaning this weekend is down 34% on a like for like basis. Even with the drop, it remains the second best weekend of the year, driven by a mix of major holdovers and several notable new entries.

Spider Man: Brand New Day: £12,048,459; 713 screens; Week 2; down 67%. The fall without previews is 49%. Its running total of £65,067,504 cements it as the top grossing film of the year. It now ranks as the 24th highest grossing film of all time, sitting just behind Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and places 97th on the adjusted chart behind A Bug’s Life. At this pace it should surpass £100 million, becoming only the third film ever to reach that milestone.

The Odyssey: £5,271,814; 761 screens; Week 4; down 23%. Its total of £61,501,212 makes it the second highest grossing film of the year. It now sits 27th on the all time chart behind The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and 106th on the adjusted list behind Oppenheimer. A finish around £80 million looks likely.

Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie: £1,672,975; 622 screens; Week 1. Includes £566,364 from 548 previews. A strong family launch that lands as the 29th best opening of 2026 behind Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour. It is also the 22nd widest release of the year.

Toy Story 5: £728,851; 658 screens; Week 8; down 3`%. With £53,938,340 to date, it becomes the third top grossing film of the year. It now ranks 46th on the all time chart behind Jurassic Park, and 146th on the adjusted chart behind Slumdog Millionaire.

Minions and Monsters: £538,976; 633 screens; Week 6; down 31%. Total now £16,066,813. It ranks 462nd of all time behind Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, and is the 11th top grosser of the year behind Hamnet.

Andre Rieu’s 2026 Summer Concert: Viva Maastricht: £499,762; 548 screens; Week 1. A solid event cinema turnout that adds breadth to the market.

Moana: £464,054; 611 screens; Week 5; down 36%. Total now £11,853,972.

Ice Cream Man: £308,198; 410 screens; Week 1. Includes £67,150 from 215 previews. It lands as the 74th top opening of the year behind Labyrinth (40th Anniversary) and records the fifth worst screen average of the top fifteen.

Practical Magic: £61,488; 338 screens; Week 1438; up dramatically due to a special event rerelease. Total now £3,339,394.

Yaar Jigree Kasooti Degree: £43,879; 16 screens; Week 1.

The Summer Book: £40,393; 63 screens; Week 1. Includes £3,463 from 25 previews.

Holdovers and milestones

Spider Man: Brand New Day continues its dominant run, rising to 24th on the all time chart and 97th on the adjusted list. The Odyssey strengthens its position as the second highest grosser of the year and climbs into the top thirty all time. Toy Story 5’s long tail keeps it firmly in the yearly top three, while Minions and Monsters maintains a respectable presence as the 11th highest grosser of 2026. These titles remain the backbone of the market, providing sustained momentum even as new releases cycle through.

Ones to watch next week

A varied slate arrives, though one title stands clearly above the rest in terms of expected impact. Final take

A sharply reduced but still substantial weekend kept the market active, with Spider Man, The Odyssey and Toy Story 5 continuing to deliver major milestones. Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie added fresh family energy, while a mix of event cinema and niche debuts filled out the lower ranks. Next weekend’s arrival of The End Of Oak Street is poised to lift the market significantly, supported by a broad and eclectic slate across multiplexes and specialty venues.
