The weekend delivered another subdued frame, with the top fifteen combining for £10,456,540. That marks a 9% decline from last weekend and ranks as the 9th worst weekend of the year. Four new entries landed inside the top ten, led by Street Fighter, while holdovers continued to provide some notable milestones further down the chart and on the yearly rankings.

Weekend roundup

• Street Fighter: £2,313,689; 594 screens; Week 1. The weekend's number one debut lands as the 30th best opening of 2026, just behind Masters Of The Universe. The new adaptation opened significantly above the original 1995 release, which debuted with £834,870 and finished with £3,268,727. Adjusted for inflation, that original total would equate to £8,156,914. Current indicators suggest this new version could follow a similar trajectory to Masters Of The Universe and finish in the £5.5 million to £6 million range.

• Forgotten Island: £1,299,539; 620 screens; Week 1. Includes £6,204 from 16 previews. The animated adventure secured the 47th best opening of the year, just behind Obsession, while also becoming the 8th biggest animated opening of 2026. A solid family driven debut that should benefit from school holiday attendance.

• Jailer 2: £1,169,412; 228 screens; Week 1. Includes £400,400 from 208 previews. Despite opening behind Forgotten Island, it delivered the strongest screen average of the weekend at £5,129. Its launch ranks as the 48th best opening of the year, immediately behind Forgotten Island, demonstrating exceptional demand relative to its cinema footprint.

• Verity: £1,094,503; 633 screens; Week 3; down 44%. With a running total of £9,488,335, the thriller continues to perform strongly and remains on course to become one of the year's larger successes.

• Other Mommy: £934,095; 522 screens; Week 2; down 53%. A steeper second weekend decline, though a cumulative £3,799,082 remains healthy after only two weekends.

• Hadestown: The Musical: £623,906; 519 screens; Week 2. The theatrical event release has now reached £1,459,997 after two weekends.

• Whalefall: £510,743; 502 screens; Week 1. A respectable debut that ranks as the 80th best opening of the year, placing just behind Top Gun (40th Anniversary).

• Heart Of The Beast: £509,839; 535 screens; Week 4; down 38%. One of the strongest holds among the wide releases this weekend, pushing its total to £6,386,412.

• Resident Evil: £482,942; 420 screens; Week 5; down 39%. The franchise reboot continues to demonstrate staying power, reaching £13,644,200 and climbing to 16th place on the 2026 chart behind Hoppers. It has also moved up to 553rd place on the all time chart, just behind Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

• Sense And Sensibility: £311,458; 420 screens; Week 4; down 48%. The literary adaptation has now accumulated £5,861,336, confirming a successful run for the period drama.

Holdovers and milestones

Resident Evil remains one of the most notable ongoing success stories of the year. Its £13,644,200 total has elevated it to 16th place among 2026 releases, and its all time ranking continues to improve with each passing weekend. Verity is approaching the £10 million milestone after just three weekends. Reaching £9,488,335, it remains one of the strongest mainstream performers currently in release and should cross that threshold shortly.

Heart Of The Beast delivered one of the weekend's most impressive holds with a 38% decline in its fourth frame. With £6,386,412 banked so far, it continues to prove highly resilient. Among wider marketplace milestones, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now grossed £100,135,058, becoming the 26th highest grossing adjusted film of all time, sitting just behind Casino Royale (2006). Meanwhile, The Odyssey has climbed to £87,793,846 and now ranks as the 45th highest grossing adjusted release ever, directly behind Quantum Of Solace.

The sharpest notable decline belonged to The Uprising, which fell 56% during its second weekend. Without the impact of previews, the decline also stands at 56%, indicating a significant drop in demand following its opening frame.

Ones to watch next week

The upcoming frame is packed with new releases, but three titles appear best positioned to challenge for the top spots. Clayface looks set to be the biggest newcomer of the weekend. The DC villain focused horror title combines comic book recognition with genre appeal and should comfortably lead the fresh releases. Ali G: Who Iz I? is likely to generate strong nostalgia driven interest and could emerge as the closest challenger to Clayface. The character remains widely recognised in the UK marketplace and should perform particularly well among older audiences.Klara And The Sun rounds out the top three newcomers. The adaptation arrives with prestige credentials and broad awareness, positioning it for a solid debut among adult audiences.

Final take

A £10,456,540 weekend represents another soft frame for the marketplace, ranking as the 9th weakest of the year and declining 9% from the previous session. New arrivals provided much of the momentum, with Street Fighter leading the way and Forgotten Island and Jailer 2 producing solid debuts. Holdovers continue to generate noteworthy milestones, particularly Resident Evil, Verity, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and The Odyssey. Attention now turns to a crowded release slate led by Clayface, Ali G: Who Iz I?, and Klara And The Sun, which should inject fresh energy into the chart next weekend.
