Lilo & Stitch opens in first place this weekend, grossing £9,568,923 from 685. Taking £1,581,095 from previews, it was 3rd best opening of the year behind Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy and also the 59th widest release ever. Its opening wasn’t far off the entire gross of the original’s 2002 run of £12,892,631, which opened to just £1,516,249. Of Disney live action remakes, it was better than 2023’s The Little Mermaid (£5,012,929), 2019’s Aladdin (£7,066,773) and Dumbo (£6,076,779). Should be good for around £30m by the end of its run.

Settling for second place, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning took £8,579,185 from its 747 screens, £2,398,616 coming from previews. This was the second widest release ever in the UK and the 4th best opening weekend of the year behind 1st place Lilo & Stitch. Compared to the last installment, it was actually down 17% from 2023’s Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One which had a franchise high of £10,391,016. Part one went on to gross £26m which is where Reckoning is likely to end up also.

The Phoenician Scheme opened in 4th place with £770,562 from 354 screens. It was the 28th best opening of the year behind Flight Risk. This was down from Wes Anderson’s previous film, Asteroid City which grossed £ 1,176,972 in it’s opening back in 2023.

Elsewhere on the chart Thunderbolts* moves closer to out grossing Sinners, taking £14,931,675 after a month on the chart. Should finish with around £17.5m by the end of its run.
