Weekend roundup

The Housemaid  £3,523,229; 642 screens; Week 3; down 9%. After two weeks in second place, The Housemaid finally climbs to No. 1. Its total now stands at £17,881,582, making it the 389th highest‑grossing film ever in the UK, just behind Bolt. It is also the 15th top‑grossing film of 2025, overtaking Captain America: Brave New World, Sinners, Thunderbolts and 28 Years Later. A strong hold and a rare late‑run ascent to the top.

Hamnet £3,248,940 opening; 701 screens; Week 1; includes £246,577 from 102 previews. The biggest story of the weekend. Hamnet delivers the best opening of the year, ranking as the 558th best opening of all time, just behind The Proposal. Its 701‑screen footprint makes it the 44th widest release in UK history, an unusually broad push for a literary drama. A commanding debut that nearly took the top spot.

Avatar: Fire And Ash  £2,600,206; Week 4; down 41%. Total now £35,814,418. After a month on release, it has become the 127th highest‑grossing film ever, sitting just behind Fifty Shades of Grey. The drop is sharper than last weekend, but its cumulative performance remains one of the strongest among current releases.

Marty Supreme  £2,042,558; Week 3; down 26%. Total now £9,435,172. A solid hold that positions the film to cross the £10 million mark within days. It is now the 28th top‑grossing film of 2025, just behind The Roses. A steady climber with clear staying power.

Zootropolis 2£ 1,227,736; Week 7; down 41%. Total now £29,349,084. The sequel has now overtaken the original’s £24,086,172 and stands as the 182nd highest‑grossing film ever, just behind Guardians of the Galaxy. Despite the weekly erosion, its cumulative strength is undeniable.

Song Sung Blue  £435,691; Week 2; down 53%. Total now £1,868,638. Without previews, the fall‑off is a milder 39%, suggesting the film is finding a modest but consistent audience.

Giant  £370,665 opening; 332 screens; Week 1; includes £12,951 from 176 previews. A mid‑table debut with a restrained footprint. Stronger regional play could help it stabilise in the coming weeks.

Labyrinth (40th Anniversary)  £320,994 opening; 370 screens; Week 1; includes £185 from 1 preview. A healthy anniversary turnout for a beloved classic, landing just inside the top 10.

The Raja Saab  £262,100 opening; 161 screens; Week 1; includes £169,414 from 168 previews. A preview‑driven debut that places it comfortably mid‑chart.

Wicked: For Good  £211,220; Week 8; down 65%. Total now £46,880,672. One of the highest‑grossing films currently in release, though now deep into its late‑run decline.

I Puritani – Met Opera 2026  £77,980 opening; 80 screens; Week 1. A typical opera‑event performance, drawing its core audience.

Holdovers of note • The Spongebob Movie: Search For Squarepants — £617,624; Week 3; down 48%. Total now £6,894,721. A steeper drop this weekend, but still performing respectably for a family title in a crowded market.

• Anaconda — £525,611; Week 3; down 46%. Total now £4,753,286. A surprisingly sturdy run for a genre revival.

• Sentimental Value — £108,672; Week 3; down 41%. Total now £859,667. A small‑scale performer holding about as expected.

• Dhurandhar — £67,418; Week 6; down 50%. Total now £2,936,689. Nearing the £3 million mark after a consistent multi‑week run.

Quick Take A softer weekend overall, but one defined by milestones. Hamnet delivered the year’s strongest opening and one of the widest releases in UK history. The Housemaid’s late‑run rise to No. 1 is a rarity, while Avatar: Fire And Ash and Zootropolis 2 continue to climb the all‑time charts. Marty Supreme is now on the cusp of joining the year’s £10 million club.
