The UK box office delivered its strongest frame of the year, with the top 15 generating £20,533,279, a 38 percent uplift from last weekend. A major new release powered the market to its best weekend of 2026 so far, while several long running titles continued to add meaningful milestones across the yearly and all time charts.
Weekend roundup
• Toy Story 5: £15,361,194; 702 screens; Week 1. A commanding debut that opens ahead of Toy Story 4 and reinforces the franchise’s enduring appeal nearly three decades on. While it does not reach the historic heights of Toy Story 3, its £15.36 million launch places it among the series’ strongest starts. It also lands as the 47th widest release ever. It enjoyed the top opening weekend of the year, the 35th top opening ever behind Quantum of Solace and the 2nd best in the series.
• Disclosure Day: £1,722,597; 723 screens; Week 2; down 69 percent. A sharp fall after its preview supported opening, though its total of £9,076,770 positions it as the 16th highest grossing film of the year, sitting just behind The Sheep Detectives.
• Obsession: £924,703; 548 screens; Week 6; down 39 percent. A notably resilient hold for a sixth week. Its total of £15,366,392 makes it the 8th top grosser of the year, just behind Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu, and it now sits in the 492nd position on the all time chart.
• Scary Movie: £556,487; 524 screens; Week 3; down 61 percent. A steep drop but still contributing to a solid £8,431,226 total.
• Backrooms: £445,285; 541 screens; Week 4; down 54 percent. Now at £11,781,211, continuing a strong run for a mid budget genre title.
• Masters Of The Universe: £396,381; 508 screens; Week 3; down 54 percent. Total now £4,965,546.
• Michael: £319,376; 443 screens; Week 9; down 57 percent. With £52,424,692 to date, it rises to 48th place on the all time chart, just behind Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
• Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu: £219,506; 410 screens; Week 5; down 56 percent. Total now £15,388,306.
• Cocktail 2: £189,168; 135 screens; Week 1. A modest but targeted opening.
• The Devil Wears Prada 2: £84,664; 208 screens; Week 8; down 65 percent. Its total of £34,129,624 places it as the 139th highest grossing film of all time, just behind Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Holdovers and milestones
Michael continues its exceptional run, climbing into the top 50 all time and maintaining one of the strongest legs of the year. Obsession adds another sturdy frame and remains a top ten performer on the yearly chart, while Disclosure Day edges further up the rankings despite a heavy second weekend fall. The Devil Wears Prada 2 reaches a notable all time position, reinforcing its status as one of the year’s most durable adult skewing titles. These films remain the most significant long term contributors to the market outside the major tentpoles.

Final take
A buoyant £20.5 million weekend delivered the strongest box office performance of the year so far, driven almost entirely by the arrival of Toy Story 5. Strong holdovers such as Obsession and Michael continued to add meaningful milestones, while a mix of niche debuts and event programming filled out the lower end of the chart. With a broad and eclectic slate landing next week, the market should maintain momentum as summer programming deepens.
