Weekend Roundup: Oct 31 Don't keep the Wicker Man waiting!
The weekend delivered a notably softer frame, with the top fifteen combining for £9,677,297. That represents a 21% decline from last weekend and ranks as the 7th worst weekend of the year. Despite the downturn, the market welcomed two closely matched new openers at the top of the chart, while several established holdovers continued to build significant yearly and all time chart positions.

Weekend roundup
• Wicker: £1,757,185; 675 screens; Week 1. The weekend's number one film edges out the competition by just £10,142. Its debut ranks as the 42nd best opening of 2026 and the 15th widest release of the year.
• Primetime: £1,747,043; 572 screens; Week 1. Missing the top spot by the narrowest of margins, the film nevertheless secures the 43rd best opening weekend of the year and gives the chart a rare photo finish at the summit.
• Ghosts: The Possession Of Button House: £1,524,677; 666 screens; Week 2; down 38%. A solid second weekend brings the running total to £6,335,031. The strong hold pushes the film into 33rd place on the 2026 chart, just behind Avengers: Endgame Encore.
• Clayface: £1,230,587; 573 screens; Week 2; down 39%. Another sturdy comic book hold with £4,685,885 accumulated after only two weekends.
• Wildwood: £646,944; 637 screens; Week 2; down 37%. One of the stronger holds in the top ten, lifting its total to £2,813,351.
• Forgotten Island: £621,929; 643 screens; Week 3; down 34%. The best hold among the major studio titles this weekend. Its £5,162,524 total reflects consistent audience support.
• Street Fighter: £477,941; 477 screens; Week 3; down 53%. A sharper decline this weekend hit by halloween perhaps, though the film has still reached £5,722,764.
• Shaun The Sheep: The Beast Of Mossy Bottom: £282,186; 553 screens; Week 7; down 10%. Benefiting from a Halloween bump, the family favourite delivers the weekend's standout hold. Its total now stands at £5,729,975, making it the 35th highest grossing film of the year behind Supergirl.
• Verity: £265,076; 389 screens; Week 5; down 59%. Although momentum is slowing, the adaptation has amassed a highly impressive £11,635,161.
• Ken Russell’s The Devils (4K Restoration): £254,718; 74 screens; Week 1. An excellent result for a catalogue reissue, particularly given its limited screen count.
Holdovers and milestones
Ghosts: The Possession Of Button House continues to establish itself as one of the autumn's stronger performers. Crossing £6 million in only its second weekend, it has climbed to 33rd place on the yearly chart and continues to outperform many earlier 2026 releases. Resident Evil added £199,622 in its seventh weekend for a total of £14,567,545. The horror sequel now stands as the 15th highest grossing film of 2026, behind Moana (2026), and has reached 524th place on the all time box office chart.
Verity remains one of the year's biggest success stories. Its £11,635,161 total places it as the 20th highest grossing film of 2026, behind Disclosure Day, while also reaching 673rd place on the all time chart, just behind Unbreakable. Shaun The Sheep: The Beast Of Mossy Bottom continues its remarkable longevity. The film is now the second highest grossing entry in the franchise, behind only Shaun the Sheep Movie (£13,747,633) and comfortably ahead of A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (£7,141,435).
Elsewhere, The Odyssey continues its historic run with a cumulative total of £88,276,860. The epic now ranks as the 44th highest grossing adjusted film of all time, sitting just behind Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Ones to watch next week
Lots of new releases arrive next weekend, led by a diverse mix of mainstream, music, and speciality titles. Godzilla Minus Zero appears best positioned to challenge for the top of the chart, benefiting from strong audience awareness and a reputation that has steadily grown since its acclaimed international release. George Michael: The Faith Tour (Concert) should prove a major draw for music fans and event cinema audiences, while I Play Rocky brings the enduring appeal of one of cinema's most beloved franchises and could attract both nostalgic viewers and younger filmgoers. Amazing Grace is expected to perform solidly with mainstream audiences, particularly if positive word of mouth develops early in its run. Meanwhile, La Bola Negra looks set to be one of the stronger speciality releases of the weekend, with the potential to attract significant interest beyond the traditional arthouse circuit. Together, these titles should provide the market with a much needed boost following one of the softest weekends of the year. Opening:

Final take
A £9.7 million frame marks one of the weakest weekends of the year, yet the market still found room for an intriguing battle between Wicker and Primetime, separated by barely £10,000. Strong holds from Ghosts: The Possession Of Button House, Forgotten Island, and particularly Shaun The Sheep: The Beast Of Mossy Bottom provided some encouragement, while long running successes such as Resident Evil, Verity, and The Odyssey continued to add meaningful milestones. Next weekend should deliver a welcome injection of fresh product, led by Godzilla Minus Zero, which looks the most likely film to shake up the top of the chart.
